Hips Don't Lie - SUBBING!

Hips Don't Lie

Below the belt ain’t off limits! Join in this mildly paced, beginner-friendly class focused on strengthening, stabilizing, and opening the muscles and tissues of the lower body.

More than Shakira ever knew, our hips are the seat of holding within the body. But our modern lifestyle makes the hips progressively tighten over time, leading to low back discomfort, sciatica, restless leg syndrome and many other imbalances.
Get down as we mindfully move and stretch the lower body through dynamic postures and static holds. The first half explores standing and balance poses to stabilize and strengthen the hips and entire lower body. Postures in the second half open the lower body to unlock more freedom in the body.
Don’t be shy, get ready to show off your open hips to the world – you’ll make Shakira proud.

*This mildly paced class is beginner friendly and perfect for those suffering from old injuries, athletes looking to improve their stability and mobility, and anyone looking for some freedom in their back.

While Flowing Form may incorporate basic arm-balance poses such as bakasana (crow) and basic inversions such as tripod headstand, modifications are always offered.

Happy Hour - SUBBING!

Happy Hour Description

Enjoy the challenges of learning some deeper postures all while moving and breathing to the beat of the music. This moderate to fast-paced class will keep you on your toes, meshing alignment and creative sequencing -- and a few jokes are not out of the realm of possibility.

Some exploration of intermediate arm balances and inversions are fair game, along with some more physically challenging sequences. Expect to sweat, burn calories, and most importantly to have fun! Bring water, a towel, a good attitude to the mat.
*All levels / mixed levels class. Some yoga experience is recommended.

Brenda McMorrow! with friends @ Form Yoga

Join us at Form Yoga for kirtan with the ever awesome Brenda McMorrow!

There will be a brief opening set with Shonali Banerjee and Atlanta's newest kirtan band, Narayani!

Doors will open at 7:30pm, music starts at 8pm.

Brenda's band for the evening will be Shonali lending vocals, Gershone Hendelberg on keyboard, Ian Boccio on bass and Stan Holt on percussion.

It has been three years since Brenda was last in Atlanta, and was part of a series of "closing" Kirtan concerts. Swaha Productions was changing hands for the sake of evolution and receiving fresh energy. So, we are thrilled to welcome her back!

Brenda McMorrow is known for her unique and warmly embracing style of mantra music, in which she blends elements of acoustic folk, world rhythms and ancient Indian chants with a sweetly introspective singer-songwriter’s sensibility.  Yoga Journal describes Brenda as having “a knack for expressing the deepest realizations in the sparsest lyrics”. As spiritual teacher Ram Dass has said: “Brenda has a gift”, and her music has been touching people’s hearts worldwide. With 4 celebrated devotional chant albums, Brenda is a featured artist on the White Swan Records roster, a Colorado label well known for it’s high-profile yoga-inspired artists like Deva Premal.  Brenda has been invited to Festivals and events across North and South America, Europe and Asia as part of her most recent tour schedule. When not on the Bhakti road, Brenda calls Toronto, Ontario home.

Tickets sold through eventbrite: $20 at the door, $15 in Advance

Chantasana ~ shanti peace practice

In honor of 9/11, all my public yoga classes will center around a unique style of practicing I am calling, Chantasana.  Available to all levels of practitioner, Chantasana is a unique melding of chant & sound practices with deeply mindful vinyasa, asana and meditation. These practices are inspired by my studies with the late TKV Desikachar, influenced further over the years by my own experiences with sound, chant, and yoga in the western world.  We will utilize the sanskrit word, shanti, throughout practice this week.

I've usually snuck these practices in so y'all don't run away scared, but I've come to the conclusion that you can handle it! Furthermore, if I've interpreted your feedback correctly, many of you are longing for this depth, this freshness, this expansion into your posture practice.  These practices break us away from fear, align us with our truth, so we may both speak up boldly and drop inward deeply.  These practices feel very necessary in our current climate..

See my public teaching schedule here.

Dirty South Yoga Fest (July 20 - July 22)

Evoke Ma Durga Through Chant & Asana

Join Shonali in a unique practice honoring Goddess Durga. Ma Durga is a powerful central goddess figure in the Hindu tradition, and it is said that by chanting her name her attributes are brought forward within the practitioner and into the world. Durga uses her great power to fight negative forces in the world and protect her people from evil. Inspired by Shonali's studies with TKV Desikachar, a specific series of postures will be linked to a Durga mantra. The practice is aimed at development of breath, focus and energy expansion. The layering of your own voice with your asana practice brings forth a unique quality of presence and empowerment. This will be a multi-dimensional practice, additionally incorporating 7 chakra energy centers. The effects of this type of practice are centering and powerful.

Summer Solstice Celebration: Community Flower Yantra + Live Music @ Form Yoga

Live music by Shonali Banerjee, Blue Spirit Wheel, Flávia Krishna & Gershone.

In a celebration of the summer solstice join Shonali Banerjee at FORM yoga to participate in the creation of a fresh flower yantra. Working with the beauty of fresh flower petals and natural materials of the earth we will all participate in the creation of the yantra. By creating this yantra together we celebrate our individual and community potential, raising the vibration of pure transformative love. Shonali will be joined in this uplifting and sacred ceremony by Atlanta's finest kirtan wallahs, Blue Spirit Wheel (Ian Boccio & Stephanie Francesca Kohler), and Flavia Krishna & Gershone who will infuse our group's work with powerful songs and chants. Vibrations will soar!

What is a Yantra?

A Yantra is a geometrically based symbol radiating concentrically from a center point. Yantras are potent tools for meditative practice and used to link the practitioner to a particular energetic or vibrational field. We will participate in creating the yantra for the vibration of the heart.

Our Bodies, Our Earth: Restorative+Gentle Flow, Flower Meditation, Sacred Mantra

An Earth Day Celebration: Our Bodies, Our Earth: Restorative + Gentle Flow, Flower Meditation, Sacred Mantra

Shonali’s voice is rich, warm, and deep like the heart of our mother, earth. In the wholly unique event, curated especially for Sacred Chill {West} by Shonali, we celebrate our bodies and earth with a practice that includes earth honoring chants, a beautifully crafted sequence of gentle & restorative yoga postures, movement, a flower meditation & community sharing.

With Shonali’s expert guidance, we will breathe together like wind in branches, ground ourselves deep like oak trees, and drink from our collective wellspring of healing waters. Fresh flower offerings of vivid beauty ignite our senses and remind us of our own innate strength, vulnerability and the necessity of deep care.

Come celebrate our Earth and gather in conscious community as humans of this planet so we may lift ourselves from within and remember who we are.
This will be a nourishing experience, heart opening, and peaceful. Physical practices will be accessible for all bodies, no prior experience necessary.

Wild Woman Moon Circle

Wild Woman Moon Circle

Join us each month for a sacred gathering of women to harness the energy of the new moon.

Drawing on the corresponding moon's astrological theme, each circle will include an opening ritual and meditation, guided visualization, sharing and intention setting for the month ahead.

These circles are an inclusive gathering of women (and those that identify as women) from all paths to join in sisterhood as we reconnect with the wild, untamed heart within. A great compliment to our popular monthly Full Moon and New Moon classes, the Wild Women Moon Circles provide an opportunity to dive deeper into the exploration of the new moon as a guide to connect with our inner world.

This is an official gathering of the Wild Woman Project. Dress in clothes to move freely in. Please bring your mat, a journal and a pen.

Class is limited to the first 18 registrations.
